Planning Process

In July 2005, TRUenergy provided the Wollongong City Council with a pre-rezoning submission, seeking Council's support to proceed with a formal rezoning submission and draft Local Environment Plan for Tallawarra Lands.

Included in this submission were details of the site's attributes and relevant local and state planning strategies and policies.  Approval to proceed with the formal rezoning was granted in September 2005.

In 2006, the Tallawarra Lands Local Environmental Study process was undertaken. This Study evaluates the environmental context of the land, the issues which impact on the natural and human environment, and provides guidance regarding future land use and land management on the site.

The Tallawarra Lands Local Environmental Study was adopted by Wollongong Council in April 2007.

Wollongong Council will now use the Tallawarra Lands Local Environmental Study to guide its preparation of the zoning controls for Tallawarra and have included extracts in the draft of the Wollongong Local Environmental Plan for 2008. A copy of the study and results can be found here.
