Welcome to Tallawarra

TRUenergy is currently constructing a new, state-of-the-art, gas-fired power station near Wollongong, in NSW.

Using efficient, fast start combined cycle generation technology not previously employed in NSW, TRUenergy Tallawarra will produce 400 megawatts of electricity, reducing the risk of power shortages at times when demand for electricity rises rapidly.

TRUenergy Tallawarra will also produce around 70 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than traditional coal-fired power stations, making it Australia’s most efficient gas-fired power station. Construction of Tallawarra is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2008/09.

TRUenergy announces Tallawarra Stage B - April 2007

Energy market projections show NSW will need further peak electricity generation capacity within the next five years to maintain electricity supply reliability.

TRUenergy is considering plans to construct an additional peak electricity generation facility, to be located next to our current power station development, TRUenergy Tallawarra. This new facility will be a quick start gas fired generation plant, designed to provide back up electricity to the NSW energy market during periods of very high demand.  Planning and construction of the new power station will be in strict accordance with all relevant regulations and will comply with strict environmental standards.  Further developments will be announced in the coming months.

TRUenergy Tallawarra construction well underway - October 2007

Construction of TRUenergy Tallawarra is on track for completion in time for Summer 2008/09. In August, over $100 million worth of word-class machinery, including Tallawarra’s massive turbine, generator and emissions stack, was delivered to the site in three late night logistical exercises the size of which has not been previously seen in the Illawarra.

In October, Tallawarra’s emission stack was lifted into place.  Designed to have a low profile, the top of the stack stands lower than the electricity transmission towers that are already on the site.

At present, over 250 contractors and 25 TRUenergy employees are working at Tallawarra. TRUenergy recently recruited staff to operate and maintain the plant, with 90% of roles filled by candidates already living in the Illawarra region.  We will now run training for these new employees both onsite and overseas to ensure those managing the power station are highly qualified for the task.
