Achievements

The following provides a snapshot of some or our recent achievements:

  • We launched our corporate Climate Change Strategy, committing to reduce our carbon emissions by 60% by 2050. Find out more
  • We signed a substantial agreement with Solar Systems, a Melbourne-based business and will now build the world’s largest and most efficient solar power station in northern Victoria. The new power station will assist to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 400,000 tonnes per year 
  • We are currently constructing Australia’s most efficient gas-fired power station in NSW.  When complete, TRUenergy Tallawarra will produce 70% less greenhouse gas emissions than traditional coal-fired plants
  • We have taken a lead role in advocating for the early introduction of a carbon trading scheme to tackle climate change and have formulated a plan to reduce carbon emissions from our own operations by more than 200,000 tonnes
  • In partnership with Easy Being Green, we gave away one million free energy efficiency packs to NSW householders, helping them save $150 on annual electricity bills
  • We expanded our Customer Hardship support program, launching $2.3 million worth of initiatives to assist customers with a legitimate inability to pay their energy bills
  • We teamed up with the Brotherhood of St Laurence, the Moreland Energy Foundation and the Victorian Government to launch the Phoenix Fridge Program. Consumers are encouraged to donate their old fridges, which are repaired and restored to an energy efficient standard and sold at an affordable price to low income earners. Find out more
  • We are a partner in the PowerWorks Energy and Technology Centre, the electricity industry information and tour centre in Morwell Victoria
  • We implemented environmentally friendly printing methods for all marketing materials, using recycled paper and soya-based ink.
