As a subsidiary of Hong Kong listed CLP Holdings Limited, TRUenergy is a substantial part of one of the largest energy businesses in the Asia-Pacific region.
Our vision is to be the leading integrated energy business in Australia. As an integrated energy business our functions span energy generation, retailing and portfolio management. Retail and generation are a natural complement, with our retail customers providing a market for our generation. Our portfolio management function ensures access to any additional generation required to meet customer needs, sells any surplus generation into the national market and creates further value through energy trading and sales to industrial and commercial customers.
TRUenergy is Australia’s third largest private energy retailer. We supply gas and electricity to 1.2 million residential and business customers in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales every day. We stake our reputation on understanding our customers and delivering competitive, straightforward products and services that meet their energy needs. In addition to our retail customers, we supply gas and electricity to a significant portfolio of industrial and commercial customers.
TRUenergy’s generations assets include the Yallourn Power Station, the third largest generator in Victoria. This 1450MW power station supplies 22% of Victoria’s electricity and 8% of national market needs. The Yallourn mine is the largest open cut coalmine in Australia with reserves to meet the projected needs of the power station to 2032.
In addition to the generator at Yallourn, a major gas-fired power station is also being developed at Tallawarra near Wollongong in New South Wales, which will produce 50% less greenhouse gas emissions than conventional power stations. Tallawarra Power Station is due for completion in 2008.
As well as electricity generation, we also operate a gas storage facility at Iona near Port Campell in Victoria.
The TRUenergy brand was launched in June 2005 and brings together under one name the businesses previously known as Yallourn Energy, AusPower and the TXU energy business.
